A BRIEF HISTORY
While acupuncture dates back to 6000 BCE, electro-acupuncture was first utilized by acupuncturists in the mid 1900’s. It was discovered that by aligning two needles around acupuncture trigger points and delivering gentle electrical currents to the needles, clients reported an increase in positive side effects.
HOW ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE WORKS
The body is made up of 12 very specific meridians, or channels. Each meridian follows tracks throughout the body and contains trigger points for specific organs and bodily functions. Needles are inserted into trigger points located along the meridian being targeted as well as a second needle inserted nearby. By sending gentle electrical currents through the needles to the trigger points along a meridian, the body is better able to activate healing and be brought back to balance. Massage, herbal teas, dietary alterations, and heat therapy are often recommended to compliment acupuncture.
